Stanisława Morończyk

Stanisława Morończyk (nicknamed „Little Stasia”) was born in Brzeszcze in 1920 where she attended primary school, and in 1935 joined the scouts. She graduated from high school in Rybnik in 1939.

Under the occupation, she began to render aid to KL Auschwitz prisoners in the autumn of 1940. This aid consisted primarily of providing food, but also of supplying medicine, clothing, and acting as an intermediary in the exchange of illegal correspondence (secret messages).

In 1942, threatened with arrest, she hid in Komorowice for several months. Despite the danger, she then returned to Brzeszcze to continue her activities. She became a member of the Home Army in 1943 where she served as courier.

After the war, she was awarded, among other honours, the Gold Cross of Merit and the Home Army Cross.

She passed away in 2018 and is buried in the municipal cemetery in Brzeszcze.
