Architectural Accessibility
ul. Maksymiliana Kolbego 2a, 32-600 Oświęcim
The Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents, hereinafter referred to as the Museum, is located in a three-storey building in Oświęcim, at 2a Maksymiliana Kolbego Street.
- Bus stops are located near the Museum: on Kolbego Street (approx. 300 m from the main entrance) and on Leszczyńska Street (approx. 150 m from the main entrance).
- Entrance/access to the Museum grounds is through gates located on Kolbego and Leszczyńska Streets.
- Parking spaces for persons with disabilities are located on the west and south sides of the building, marked with vertical and horizontal signage.
- The main entrance to the Museum building is on the north side. It is accessible via stairs with handrails on both sides and a ramp with handrails for persons with disabilities. The glass doors open outward and lack contrasting markings. The area in front of the building is adapted for wheelchair users.
- Upon entering through the main entrance, to the left of the lobby, there is a security station and a ticket counter with surfaces at different heights, adapted for persons with disabilities, including wheelchair users.
- Upon entering through the main entrance, to the right is an information board showing the layout of rooms including toilets, cloakroom, elevator, and exhibition direction.
- The staff entrance on the west side is not adapted for persons with mobility impairments. It is a single-wing door opening inward, without contrasting markings, equipped with a door closer and access control system.
- An additional entrance on the south side leads to the Museum terrace via stairs. It is not adapted for persons with mobility impairments.
- The educational trail on the Museum outdoor grounds is adapted for persons with disabilities, including wheelchair users.
- The exhibition inside the Museum building has been adapted for persons with disabilities:
- Tactile pathways (raised dots on the floor) for persons with visual impairments lead through the exhibitions on levels 0, 1 and 2, as well as to the toilets, café and main exit.
- There is a toilet for persons with disabilities, equipped with appropriate handles and an emergency call system.
- On the ground floor there is an elevator allowing free movement between all floors. It features a panel with Braille markings, a screen displaying the current floor number, and a voice announcement indicating the floor number and door status. Aside from the elevator, the building has no other Braille or large-print signage.
- For persons with hearing impairments, the exhibition can be explored using an audio guide offering sign language presentation or sound amplification via an induction loop.
- Throughout the Museum grounds – both outdoors and on each floor – there are tactile graphics boards (touch maps/diagrams with raised lines, textures and Braille), facilitating independent navigation for persons who are blind or have low vision.
- Assistance dogs and guide dogs are permitted in the Museum building.
- There is no staff member on-site who communicates using sign language.
